Conexus are currently partnered with a leading utilities company that are kicking off a huge project across Europe.
On that basis, we are searching for a Lead Architect to join them on a freelance basis in Berlin. Please note, this role can be completed from anywhere in the EU, as long as you are willing to travel up to twice per month to the site.
As the Architecture Lead, you will:
- Translate the Product Lead's vision into scalable, cloud-native solutions, designing and managing the lifecycle of platform services.
- Collaborate with multiple teams and architecture leads to ensure platform-wide alignment across key product clusters such as:
- Collaboration Suite (Jira, Confluence)
- CodeBuild (CI for automation and source management)
- Deployment (Kubernetes, ArgoCD)
- Security & Compliance (AquaSec, Sonar)
- DevOps Portal (self-service hub based on Backstage.io)
You will play a critical role in enhancing developer workflows, ensuring high-quality service delivery for internal and tenant-facing applications, and supporting a smooth transition between multiple staging environments (DEV, TEST, PROD).
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the DOE strategy and its implementation across on-prem, private, and public cloud solutions.
- Design scalable, cloud-native solutions that streamline developer workflows on the EDP platform.
- Collaborate with Product Leads and architecture teams to align strategies and optimize developer efficiency.
- Prioritize customer feedback to ensure solutions meet the needs of internal users and tenants.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a DevOps expert with a strong background in security, application architecture, and cloud-native solutions. You should have:
- 5+ years of experience architecting DevOps solutions within AWS, GCP, MS Azure, or hybrid environments.
- In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi), and GitOps concepts.
- Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture and Microservices.
- Advanced understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps, and secure enterprise architecture practices.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills with experience guiding cross-functional teams.
- Fluent English and German (minimum B2 level).
Preferred Skills
- Experience with KRITIS or NIS2 compliance requirements.
- Expertise in cloud networking, API development, and zero trust environments.
- Familiarity with ITIL, PKI, and secret management tools like HashiCorp Vault.
