Job description

Conexus are partnered with a global pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare brand, that are currently in a sustained period of growth. On that basis, we are serching for an API Architect to join them on a permanent basis in Barcelona, Spain.

TheAPI Architect's rols is to shape and drive their API ecosystem. This is a key leadership role, where you will contribute to high-impact digital services, enabling seamless platform integration to support their global business goals.

Role Overview:

In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of integration solutions, including an API-first strategy. You will be the go-to expert for creating robust integration platforms, fostering collaboration across global teams, and ensuring that all systems meet rigorous performance, security, and regulatory standards.

As part of a global team delivering solutions to a competitive and highly regulated market, you will support various programs and ensure alignment with the broader business strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and design of API-first integration platforms to enable smooth data exchanges and system integration across global functions.
  • Establish and maintain API standards, guidelines, and best practices across the company.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather integration requirements, offering best-in-class API solutions that drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Ensure the integration solutions are scalable, secure, and compliant with relevant regulations (GxP, SoX, etc.).
  • Spearhead the transition from traditional integration methods to modern, cloud-based architectures (iPaaS, DevOps, containerisation).
  • Promote and implement self-service capabilities by building an API portal and a catalogue of reusable components for cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain cross-functional relationships, regularly sharing best practices, updates, and lessons learned with key project and operational teams globally.

Technical Requirements:

  • 5+ years' experience in API design and development, with expertise in RESTful, SOAP, and GraphQL standards.
  • Strong knowledge of integration frameworks, design patterns, and best practices in data engineering.
  • Experience with API management platforms such as Microsoft, IBM, Kong, or others.
  • Familiarity with security protocols like OAuth, JWT, and TLS.
  • Background in regulated sectors (e.g., healthcare) and exposure to industrial systems like SAP is highly desirable.
